New Steps for the New Year

In 2014 we will be launching two new schemes to help children with their first steps. The first will be an early starter kit – or baby layette, as it is known – handed out to mothers-in-need leaving hospital or visiting baby clinics. The kits will be made available to the professionals on the ground so they can make sure that they go where they are most needed, in this country and abroad. If you’re a professional that could use some of these, please get in touch.

Each layette should have a cardigan, hat, booties and mittens in newborn to 6 month size. They don’t have to be in pastel colours, just use up whatever yarn you have. Little garments make great stash busters, like these tiny slippers from Susie Johns.   Baby beret Babyjumperssm Babyshoes

For our next project in 2014 we will be asking you to make school jumpers for those small children starting school. We’ll be issuing some plain jumper patterns so that you can join in this campaign by knitting in grey, blue and general scholarly colours

Plenty of plans in the pipeline, so time to get knitting during those long evenings! You can relax for Christmas with the thought that your are using your down-time effectively.

Best wishes from the Knit for Peace team for Christmas.
