Sasha Kagan: Design Inspiration – an introduction to design for hand knitting

Sasha KaganSasha will describe her creative process and what leads her to explore her favourite themes such as Geometric, Folkloric, Florals, Leaves, Whimsicals and Abstracts.

Plus a potted history of the trials and tribulations of her career!
Students are welcome to bring in their garments for advice.

JC_own_306_371_84_int_s_c1 2 If you love knitting, but dislike the making up process because you find it laborious and unsatisfactory come along to this invaluable workshop where Jane will show you how to work really neat and rewarding sewing up techniques on side and shoulder seams.

Participants need to bring along 4 knitted pieces for use in the class worked as follows:

Using 4mm needles and DK weight yarn cast on 26sts.

Row 1: Knit
Row 2: k1, purl to last st, k1

Work 2 row stocking stitch with garter stitch edge pattern repeat until a total of 32 rows have been completed. Cast off.

Please note that it is important that your swatches are completed in advance of the class as no spares will be provided and that you do not slip the first stitch of any row. All samples should preferably be worked in a good quality cotton yarn and participants should bring the yarn used to make the sample pieces to the workshop along with a pair of 3.25mm & 4mm knitting needles *, plus a notebook and pen/pencil. A small sewing kit including scissors and a knitters sewing needle is also required.

* if you are aware that you are a tight or loose knitter please alter the needle size accordingly.

beetlebum1 Getting to grips with this great technique can be a little tricky, so if you want to learn the basics in order to create neat brioche stitches then this is the workshop for you!

Tutored by Renée Callahan of East London Knits this workshop will show you how to read and understand brioche terminology, how to knit plain brioche stitch, how to work brioche rib stitch flat with a selvedge, how to work increases and decreases and how to work brioche in 2 colours of yarn. ** THIS COURSE IS NOW SOLD OUT **
