Feedback from the holiday:

“I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed my ten days in Mysore, it really was an amazing experience.”

“Thank you for the most wonderful experience which is up there with a handful of marvellous events in my life. I’m really missing the company and the warmth, sights and sounds.”

“A wonderful holiday.  It was a dream come true for me, as my three main passions in life are knitting, India and helping those less fortunate!  I wouldn’t have missed it for the world, loved every minute.”

“I had a most wonderful time – thoroughly enjoyed myself…Debbie was inspirational, and she was right, it was a privilege to be there.”

“The Green Hotel was a real oasis and the meals were delicious”

Sightseeing:

Mysore is a charming town (RK Narayan’s Malgudi). It still retains its old world charm – full of palaces, a world famous market, temples and Raj style buildings, bird sanctuary and nearby wildlife reserves. A more unusual opportunity is offered, you can if you wish visit projects the Green Hotel and Charities Advisory Trust (Knit for Peace’s parent charity) support, and teach the children from the orphanages and slums to finger knit.

Transport

Getting there:

The nearest international airport is Bangalore (Bengaluru), which is 115 miles away from Mysore (by car). British Airways flies direct. We will arrange for you to be met off the BA flight. You can also travel from Bangalore to Mysore by train and we will meet you at Mysore station. There is also an internal flight but the inconvenient times of the BA flights and the distance from the airport to the station in Bangalore makes the option of being met by car possibly the easiest. And for those visiting India for the first time the struggle with the porters at Bangalore station fighting over who is going to carry your luggage is a bit daunting.

What people said about our first knitting trip:

“My time at the Green Hotel was one of the best holidays I have had and there is the bonus of getting involved with Knit for Peace projects too”.
“A magical week, full of colour and laughter. Learnt a lot, Can’t wait for the next time”.
“I was a bit worried about going to India, but we were cosseted all the way”.
“The 2014 Mysore Knit for Peace holiday was more than a knitting holiday. Yes, we had excellent workshops and spent 12 days in the sun eating good food and enjoying each other’s company. The extra special element was being privileged to meet about 60 children living in 2 children’s homes that are supported by the Green Hotel and also visiting several other projects in the area that the hotel supports. Add to this the Mysore market, the shops and the Sunday evening lights at the palace and you have a wonderful, memorable time. I can’t wait for the 2015 holiday and I know that several of my friends are keen to come for the first time. Roll on January 2015!”

Extending your stay:

The hotel travel desk can arrange transport and accommodation (for those wishing to extend their stay, perhaps to the Kerala waterways, or ruins at Hampi or the textile and craft museums at Chennai (Madras and Pondicherry).
