2027 Mysore Retreat

We're delighted to announce that our friend, supporter and wonderful designer Jane Crowfoot will be leading our retreat in Mysore. The retreat will run from 22nd January to 4th February 2027 at The Green Hotel, with comfortable accommodation on a full board basis. These dates do not include the time required to travel to/from the Retreat, so please do factor that into your planning.

Jane will lead seven morning workshops including both a crochet and a knitting project for those who wish to participate. Afternoons and weekends will be free to explore the city and surrounding countryside.

Knit for Peace retreats are both extremely friendly and very relaxed.  Join in as much or as little as you wish. Come on your own and make new friends or bring a non-crafting partner or friend to share with you. Everyone is welcome. The retreat could be an excellent first introduction to India, or a joyous return to a lovely city.

The weather in Mysore in January is usually beautiful and sunny (although, sadly, not guaranteed). The town itself is interesting and still retains its old-world charm.  There are many places of interest to visit including palaces, a world-famous market, temples and nearby bird sanctuaries and wildlife reserves.

Accommodation is in The Green Hotel which has a variety of styles of rooms.  Traveller’s Rooms are basic, but ensuite and comfortable. Rooms in the Palace are idiosyncratic and may involve access by stairs.

Meal provision is full board, breakfast, lunch and dinner, buffet meals, including vegetarian options with packed lunches available for days out. Complimentary tea, coffee and water are provided during the workshops. Other refreshments are available including licensed drinks at extra costs. There is also an in-house bakery which trains women to be bakers, and a pleasant café serving lovely cakes.

How to get to Mysore:

Participants will have to arrange their own flights.  There are no direct flights from the UK to Mysore.

The nearest International Airport is Bangalore which is served by British Airways. We can suggest a flight to you if you would find that helpful.

The onwards journey to The Green Hotel is approximately 2-3 hours. We can assist in arranging for taxis, on a shared basis, if you wish, for the journey from Bangalore to The Green Hotel at an extra cost.

Morning Workshops take place under the shade of the canopies in the hotel gardens from 10am through to lunchtime.

Free Days: There are lots of things to do in your spare time. You may want to check out the shops and attractions by taking short tuktuk rides into the city. At weekends it is possible to organise longer trips out with a dedicated driver, such as those to see temples, historical attractions and animal sanctuaries. Day trips are not included in the cost of the holiday but tend to work out at a very reasonable price.

It is usually possible to buddy up with other participants to have joint outings and shared trips. It is often popular to take a walk around the nearby University Lake before breakfast.

Jane and her husband Andy have visited Mysore a number of times and may be able to make suggestions about places to see.

Workshop Project: Jane will create both a knit and crochet project using Mysore as the inspiration. Techniques such as beading and colour work will be included in the project and Jane will be on hand to help with any queries you might have throughout workshop sessions. Complimentary project kits will be provided for each participant, and a list of required equipment will be sent a couple of weeks before the trip so that you can pack accordingly. Participants in the UK will be sent their project kit to pack and bring along too. Working through the set project is optional and it is a good idea to bring another project to work on during your free time.

Booking process

Due to demand, the booking process and key dates for doing so for the Retreat this year will be as follows:

By Monday 23rd March at 6pm: All prospective participants to have submitted this online Provisional Booking Form with your room preferences. If more applications are received than there is availability, we will then allot places by ballot.

By Friday 27th March at Midday: We will notify all prospective participants as to whether they have been allotted a place, or if not whether they would like to be added to the waiting list in case a space was to become available.

By Thursday 2nd April at Midday: For all those notified that a space has been allotted to them, this is the deadline for payment of the non-refundable £250 deposit. Details on how the deposit is to be paid will be provided on notification that a space has been allotted to you to attend. If payment is not received by this date, your space will be forfeited, and we will offer that to the person listed highest on the waiting list.

Though we would love to accommodate everyone who has expressed an interest to attend the Retreat, due to the limited number that can attend the workshops, we have determined this to be the fairest approach to allot places. We are aware that people will be disappointed if they have not been successful in securing place, and we will then look to prioritise those to be offered the opportunity to attend future Retreats.
